Food delivery platform Zomato on April 28, 2021 filed its draft offer documents with market regulator SEBI. The company is looking to raise up to Rs 8,250 crore through its much-awaited initial public offer (IPO). Of this, Rs 7,500 crore will be fresh issue, while Rs 750 crore will be an offer for sale for its existing investor Info Edge.

The company has been one of the biggest startup success stories to emerge out of India over the past decade along with its chief rival Swiggy, Flipkart and Byju’s. According to its official website, Zomato has its presence in 24 countries across the globe and employs over 5,000 people. Dealers in the grey market, said the company could be valued at more than Rs 53,000 crore, which will make it larger than one-third of the companies that are part of the Nifty50 index.

Zomato raised $250 million in its pre-IPO primary fundraise a couple of months ago at a valuation of $5.4 Billion from investors such as Kora Management, Tiger Global, Fidelity, Dragoneer, and Bow Wave. Post this, Info Edge, one of Zomato's earliest investors said its effective stake in Zomato is now 18.4 percent.

Zomato reported a revenue of Rs 2,486 crore for FY20, even as its losses widened to Rs 2,451 crore during this period, as the pandemic shrunk order volumes and dine out revenue.

According to the draft red herring prospectus, Zomato said that it intends to utilize the proceeds for funding the organic and inorganic growth initiatives and for general corporate purposes. It added that the amount utilized for general corporate purposes will not exceed 25 percent of the net proceeds. The organic growth initiative includes delivery infrastructure, technology infrastructure, and customer and user acquisition.
