    1. What is Folio?
Just like your bank /demat account number this is the fund account number. This is also your reference number for your mutual fund transactions in any particular Mutual Fund. For any correspondence with AMC the folio number is a must.

Generally you will be allotted one folio per AMC (except for Franklin Templeton AMC). In case you wish to invest in different Joint Holding mode or need to have a different nominee in the same scheme or any other reason, you will have to select the "New Folio" option at the time of placing your purchase request.
By choosing "New Folio" the purchase investment the AMC shall allot a new folio to you. You will have to adhere to minimum initial purchase amount criteria for the selected scheme.

  5. Mutual Fund is basically a pool of money from many investors, managed by professional fund manager on their behalf. And the professional manager invests those pool of amount into various instruments, be it stocks, bonds, debentures, etc. and generate the returns back to investors.

There's no limit time for you to invest. You can withdraw anytime you want, but it's advisable to avoid withdrawal in short time because works best for long term [due to power of compounding: multiply over time]. But in ELSS Fund (tax savings MF), then there's 3 years lock in period.

I'm glad that you asked this because this is very hot instrument that's spreading everywhere. In Mutual Fund, you can invest with least risk possible (due to vast diversification) + high return (as compared to what banks, post office provide), especially for long term with the benefit of power of compounding, and rupee cost averaging (in case of SIP - Systematic Investment Plan).

You can even save taxes through ELSS Fund [upto Rs. 1,50,000 deduction under section 80-C]. According to me, Aditya Birla Sun Life Tax Relief 96 is very good fund. Otherwise, for regular fund, you can opt HDFC Small Cap Fund. You can start with minimum Rs. 500 monthly SIP.

To become crorepati, it's advisable to invest of minimum Rs. 5,000 monthly SIP for minimum 20 years. Any query or missing information, please feel free to ask questions.

    Have a nice day! =)
