According to the revised tariff rates proposed by the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO), the electricity charges in Tamil Nadu is likely to go up from the range of 74% to over 110%.

The TANGEDCO in its tariff revised petition has proposed a hike of 74% for people consuming up to 200 units, 94% for those consuming upto 500 units and 113% for those consuming above 500 units.

Government subsidy, which was given to all consumers irrespective of the consumption, has been now proposed to be reduced with no subsidy for those consuming more than 500 units. The TANGEDCO in the petition has also proposed drastic changes in the slab system for domestic users, according to reports.

The Tamil Nadu government considering the dire situation of the state's financial position already increased the prices of milk and bus fares across the state. But this proposed steep hike in the power tariff rates has come as a shock for the people of Tamil Nadu.
